Favorite yarn?

I’ll be taking a trip to the “big city” (Portland, OR) next weekend and will have the opportunity to visit a few yarn shops. I will also be going to a couple of fiber festivals this summer and will be surrounded by lots of yarn. I was wondering if anyone has a favorite lace or sock yarn that they really love? I’d like to try some new things and just wanted to know what I should be looking out for. Thanks.

  1. I really like the 2/28 NM 50/50 Cashmere Silk at ColourMartUK and I also really like laceweight alpaca for lace, but any really nice natural fiber will make wonderful lace.

  2. I just knit a japanese feather stole with Tess’ Designer Silk and Ivory. It is the softest silkiest yarn, drapes beautifully.

  3. I agree with Handmaiden and Fleece artist yarn- the merino sock yarn is seriously to die for. I love blue moon fiber arts, and I think knit/purl in portland carries their line.

There are lots of LYS to visit in the portland area. Enjoy your trip! PDX is a fun town to bum around in.

  4. The Handmaiden and Fleece Artists yarns are quickly becoming my faves for both. I think Blue Moon Fiber Arts (Socks that Rock) is in that area somewhere so you may see some of that.
