Most of the credit for how this looks is due to his beautiful patterns. I just follow them :-) I'm really glad you like how it came out. I hope more people get a chance to knit his patterns. Lacis in Berkeley has a few nice books with his works in them and they are starting to re-print his patterns so anyone who is interested might have a chance to knit one. You will get there if you keep at it I'm sure! I find knitting lace so relaxing that I just get a lot of practice at it.
