Lyra Bedspread progress

I am not finished yet, but I finished the square! Now there is left knitting back and forth at two of the sides (you can see the knitting needles the live stitches are put on if you look closely), which seems pretty manageable.

  1. P.S. Veronika is a German pattern, but I would be happy to help translating :)

  2. What about starting with a small niebling pattern? There are some out there for free, like frosted ferns or Veronika (search google for “niebling veronika”). I think that would be a great way starting up with Nieblings! Which pattern is in you ANNA?

  3. Stunning! I love Neibling patterns, but must admit, I am a bit intimidated by them. I have an ANNA magazine, that has a Neibling doily pattern that I’m really itching to make into a shawl. Your Lyra is beautiful, and I aspire to have the wearwithal (spelling) someday, to take on such a big project.

  4. Thank you for all your nice comments! I am actually really proud about my project. Casting off the two sides and spreading it to its full size was really a caterpillar-to-butterfly moment! It is quite a bit of an undertaking, but than again the yarn is thicker than with regular lace knitting. I actually have cats, too and have not thought about yet what they could do to the bedspread. Nothing evil, hopefully. I did not chart anything out (I am way too impatient for that), but rather decided row-by-row what changes to do next and hoping it would work out. It mostly did. The edging is ruffly what I didn“t expected or wished, but it still looks quite nice and I am definitely not going to change. I would be happy to help anyone who is interested in knitting something like this and I could definitely give a rough overview over what I did.

  5. wow, too awesome!

  8. That’s really lovely!! I’m totally impressed!

  9. Beautiful! Are you recording your mods for the rest of us who might (someday, haha) want to emulate you?

  10. WoW!
    That’s amazing! and so quick!!!
I so wish that I thought my cats wouldn’t shred such a thing if I put it on my bed…
(but I wonder… how about a wall covered with one?? hmmmmmm)

  11. OMG! It is gorgeous and you have certainly got “Sticktoitiveness”.

  12. Oh my, I am in awe. That is gorgeous, and you seem to get it done quickly, it would take me forever. Congratulations

  13. Oh my goodness, that’s gorgeous! It’s such a huge undertaking, but it looks like it will be worth it.
