Welcome to the Seasons of Lace.

Seasons of Lace is a repeating seasonal Knit Along (KAL ) for lace knitters. There are no pattern requirements, and no yarn requirements. Just knit some lace — knit what you want, how you want to, where you want to, as much as you want to! Enjoy the foliage, the first snowfalls, the spring rains, the first blooming flower and your knitting. Then stop in from time to time to tell us what you are up to and show us some yummy pictures.

We started with Summer of Lace 2008, and followed up with Winter of Lace 2008-2009, Autumn Lace ’09, Winter Lace ’09 and then.. Spring into Lace 2010 led to Summer, led to Fall, led to Winter, and so on.

With your comments and feedback, you, our participants, have helped guide us to making this a wonderful ongoing celebration of Lace.  Now we actually do have an option each season to join other members in knitting along with a specific pattern — and are often able to garner discounts for either the pattern or kits for participants.

How we got started.

Helen was reading Maria’s blog one day. Maria blogged that she’d signed up for the Summer of Lace KAL. Helen got excited, because she wanted to sign up too.  So,  she Googled Summer of Lace… and then she searched Ravelry for the Summer of Lace… — but all she found were KALs from years past. She wrote to Maria… who confessed that what she’d meant to type was Summer of Socks. So Helen said “We should start Summer of Lace”.

And then Helen asked Alyse if she could help set up such a thing, with a blog and stuff.  And Alyse said “yes.”

And then Helen up and started a Ravelry group. She’d barely turned it on (and hadn’t yet told either Alyse or Maria about it) when it got 5 members. Maria started up a flick’r group. The Ravelry group suddenly had 63 members.

And then Helen and Alyse forsook their day jobs for about a week to obsessively fuss with design concepts and ways to win prizes and how to write rules and blog styles and stuff until they finally were happy with the website. The Ravelry group had 180 members.

Helen began writing to folks to see if anyone would consider donating prizes.

People began saying yes.

And suddenly…. here we were!

Since then, Maria stepped down, and Alyse got us our very own url.  Helen and Alyse kept going for seven more seasons before they admitted that they needed help.  They posted an ad right here on the blog, and were rescued by Teri.

Over the first eight seasons, Seasons of Lace awarded prizes from 70 donors and sponsors, in dozens of raffles and contests.  And each season has meant that our members had access to discounts on a delightful array of yarn, patterns, stitch markers and other goodies.
