I have been making lace this season, in a small way. And pondering various grandiose ideas (because in my head, not only am I a better knitter and a better spinner, but also, I have far more time). The grandiose ideas are along the lines of a giant handspun Orenburg-type shawl in a Wensleydale/silk two-ply [...]
A while ago I spun up approximately 440 yards of yarn from some Beemiceelf fiber. While I loved the individual braids, I was a little disappointed in the resulting yarn. I wondered if by plying the variegated with the semi-solid, I had overpowered the lovely transitions between colors in the variegated braid. Then [...]
I’ve been spending quite a bit of time lately spinning towards a bigger project. 1. The fiber: (all of these fibers were purchased from Funky Carolina and are her Harry Potter themed colorways: Minerva, Snape, Herbology and Defense Against the Dark Arts) 2. The yarn: (The yarns were spun between October and January) 3. The [...]
I haven’t posted too much this season because I have a dirty little confession to make. Come closer… I haven’t been knitting lace. I know… how could I not be knitting lace? Well I set 2011 as the Year of the Sweater so that I could work through some of my sweater quantities of yarn [...]
No seriously… I need to get some socks done, I must not cast on for anymore shawls! This is Ishbel, knitted from some merino/silk/sparkle handspun, 240m in total which meant I ran short on yarn so had to do a few modifications to the edging. It all worked out of though, I may try for [...]
I am meant to be knitting socks for my boyfriend. Why then, as soon as I finished knitting Emily, did I not resist the urge to cast on for an Ishbel? I have never knitted one, and it seems like one of those patterns that everyone has knitted. I even span some merino silk, sparkly [...]
I thought I show a little start-to-finish on this last shawl I made. I started with these braids of Perendale in the Hummingbird colorway from maude & me on etsy. I spun a three ply, worsted weight yarn. 212 yds. Then I knit this shawl using the 198 yds of heaven pattern, except I used [...]
I wanted to see how this pattern will work out before I use some cashmere for it, so I cast on with some of my handspun. 198 yds. of heaven
I finished my hand spun Swallowtail for my sister. The yarn is actually almost white, not gray as in the pictures. This is such an nice pattern, one of these days I’m going to make the larger version so it is a full size shawl. 356 yds. hand spun Shetland. 53″ x 21″
While waiting for the glamor shots of my Zetor, I cast on a Swallowtail out of my hand spun, for my sister. The fleece is from a Shetland she used to have. I think she will enjoy having something to remember her shepherding days.
